Perhaps the biggest challenge for any writer is when they actually hear their words spoken by another – and the first time particularly so! So when Roslyn’s play The Test was chosen as one of the top 110 plays in the Sydney Short + Sweet Festival, we were all on the edge of our seats in sympathy for our resident artistic type.
It’s only the biggest short play festival in the world – thousands of playwrights from various countries submitted their work – so no pressure at all! The time limit for each production is ten minutes and writers were asked to address big themes in that window.
“Watching the performance was exciting and terrifying – I don’t think any writer realises just how much of themselves they bare to the audience until your words come out of a stranger’s mouth”, Roslyn said afterwards.
Congratulations Ros from all the team – and we’d definitely recommend an Irish coffee on such an occasion!
