Alan, who has more recently become our adviser on languages, will study several subjects to complete a major in Japanese language as part of his degree programme. The innovation of having students do compulsory community service also brought Alan experience as the Zonta International District 24 Board Intern during 2010.
Funded in part by a scholarship granted by the Japanese Government, along with a travel grant from his academic home, the Australian Catholic University, he will be immersed in the culture and language as he has elected to live with a Japanese family rather than in the international student accommodation.
What will be the biggest challenge in acclimatising? No coffee!
